Porsche 550 Spyder

Ein ganz besonderes Projekt war die Dokumentation des Prototyps eines Porsche 550 Spyder aus dem Jahr 1954.

A very special project was the documentation of the prototype of a Porsche 550 Spyder from 1954.

The car competed in two major races that year: the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Carrera Panamericana. At Le Mans, the number 39 car and drivers Johnny Claes/Pierre Stasse were class winners in the 1500 cc class and finished 12th overall. At the race in South America, Jaroslav Juhan drove the number 56 car and secured 4th place overall and second place in the up to 1600 cc class after Hans Hermann, who also drove a 550 Spyder. The car remained in the livery of this race until 2019.

After a chequered history, the owner of the car decided to have the 65-year-old car completely restored by Alfred Kist at ORCA Restoration GmbH. The film „LOGBOOK OF A RESTORATION. Porsche 550 Spyder Prototype“ tells how this restoration took place, the problems and difficulties and finally the success.

For those who are more interested: An article by me about this vehicle has been published in the „Octane Magazine“ for classic cars and sports cars.
